Portrait of Ahmed Mahmoud

I am a Postdoctoral Associate at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), working with Professors Jonathan Ragan-Kelley and Justin Solomon. My research focuses on high-performance systems for irregular computation. I design algorithms, data structures, and programming abstractions that make sparse and unstructured workloads efficient on modern parallel hardware, with applications in scientific computing, optimization, automatic differentiation, machine learning, and geometric computing..

Prior to joining MIT, I was a Senior Research Scientist at Autodesk Research in Toronto, Canada, from 2021 to 2024. In 2024, I earned my Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of California, Davis, under the supervision of Professor John D. Owens, and received an M.Sc. from the same department in 2020. I obtained my B.Sc. in Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture from Alexandria University, Egypt, in 2013.
